C R E E P Y and DISTURBING
I have a psychological thriller book that'll keep you occupied, if your calendar is free this weekend. The title is The Woman in the Window by A.J. Finn. (If you need a synopsis, click on the book link.)
Reasons I love this book, and there aren't any spoilers:
Anna Fox is a great, unreliable main character due to her agoraphobia, prescription meds and her constant companion, wine.
Supporting characters -- her neighbors -- are very suspect. Every one seems to have a motive.
I felt sorry for some of the characters. There is the unsuspecting husband, the controlling husband, the fearful son and Anna, just to name a few.
There are also the frustrating character like the detectives, Anna's tenant David, Anna's husband, Anna's neighbor's son, her physical therapist.
The short chapters with their cliffhangers made me want to keep reading. Lengthy chapters bore me with all the details. This book definitely had a lot of complicated details but Finn wrote it in a way that made me want to keep turning the page.
Throughout the book, the story kept me guessing. I was never 100% certain of the facts. I questioned everyone's motives.
The ending is one I never would have guessed. It was quite disturbing. Even now as I write this, I have goose bumps just thinking about it.
I read this book in a week. It would have been less if work and the long weekend weren't factors. In your case, it's Friday. Go on. Visit a bookstore. Stop by your local wine shop. Curl up on your couch and tune everyone out. Happy Reading!
