MY FAVORITE THINGS IN MKE, WI (Pt. 1)
I rarely make the drive to Milwaukee, considering it is one of the closest cities outside Chicago. Maybe because it requires crossing state lines and will be surrounded by Green Bay Packers & Milwaukee Brewers fans. ;-P Despite that, the city does have many other interesting and fun places to discover... and yes even the people. (My mother-in-law is from Wisconsin, and I think she is a fantastic woman.) Moving on to the adventure...
One of our MKE stops is one I always make the time to visit -- the Milwaukee Public Market, located in the Historic Third Ward. Inside, you can satisfy your food & drink cravings, and the shopping itch. One can probably spend about an hour or more just browsing through the wine, beer, cheese, spices and local Wisconsin merchandise, and more time if one decides to enjoy drinks and a meal in one of the restaurant booths.
One place that I will start putting on my list is a visit to the Milwaukee Art Museum; it was my first time. For this trip, we simply walked through the atrium called Windhover Hall the to admire the architecture. If you love high ceilings, airy space and impressive views, this spot does not disappoint. It also has a fantastic view of Lake Michigan. Even in the winter time, I was blown away.
One cannot visit Milwaukee without trying their local craft beers. We went to two, City Lights Brewing and Mob Craft. In both places we decided to order flights which allowed us to sample their creations. The first that we visited was City Lights Brewing, which did not disappoint. Friendly and attentive staff. Inviting and warm ambiance. As for the beers they did not taste overly done nor try to overly impress the drinker.
City Lights raised the bar for brewery experience which made it difficult for me to truly enjoy Mob Craft. The space was really cool which was divided into 3 distinct areas -- the bar, the dinning area and the game space. They also have an outdoor space but due to the cold, it was obviously not used. Kudos to Mob Craft for allowing us to bring our food which we bought from Sobelman's Pub & Grill. Their beers paired well with the food. However the beers on their own tasted too strong for my palate. The highlight of our visit there was probably the games. While sipping on our flight we decide to play air hockey and closed it with Q&A using the Trivial Pursuit Genius Edition cards.
I will end this blog here. I will have a second one with the rest of the MKE adventure in a few days. So please do come back. xoxo
